Hawaii; it's a wrap!

Our thanks are extended to American Airlines for the additional evening in Hawaii! Dave and I were supposed to return home to San Antonio on Sunday afternoon. However; when our 5:00 pm departing flight out of Hawaii on Saturday remained at the gate for over an hour and we deplaned; we had a feeling we weren't going anywhere fast! We deplaned after 6:00 pm on Saturday then proceeded to sit at the terminal another four hours. Finally when American said that the flight wasn't cancelled; only delayed; they provide us with cab vouchers and hotel vouchers to remain overnight. Saturday evening we spent the night and got to our hotel after midnight. We were told to return to the airport no later than 7:30 am for our 9:30 am flight out. We finally lifted off the ground around 20 minutes after our 9:30 flight and had the very last flight out of DFW at 10:40 pm on Sunday. We got home to San Antonio about 1:00 am. Dave had to return to work this morning and I leave on Thursday for NY for my nephew Matthew's college graduation.

Note to Maui passengers. If you do indeed plan on taking a cab from the airport to your hotel; you need to stop at the desk and REQUEST a cab. Cabs do not come to the airport uninvited. There isn't a queue of them waiting for you like Las Vegas or any other major city.

Our last afternoon in Hawaii was spent with Mauiscape Helicopters as we had a tour of the western portion of Maui. We were a little disappointed as we thought we would be flying directly over theHaleakala Crater (see this web link for a live camera! We crested to the very top then the pilot redirected us to another portion of the island. Don't get us wrong; it was a nice tour and all with beautiful views but we really wanted to see into the crater as we didn't do the drive to the top and bicycle down or hike into it.

So; that was our last day in Maui, Hawaii. We greatly enjoyed both Maui and Kauai and hope you've enjoyed reading about it as well.

Mahalo and Aloha!
