Kapalua Coastline of Maui

Dave and I started our day today driving up the Northwest (Kapalua) coastline of Maui. Our goal was to get to the Nakalele Blowhole. Similar to Spouting Horn in Kauai; the ocean wears away the shore below the lava shelf and with each wave water is forced through the hole.

Before the Blowhole we had breakfast at the Plantation House Restaurant. The restaurant sits above the Plantation Golf Course at Kapalua; home of the Mercedes PGA golf tournament. We enjoyed our breakfast while overlooking the course; surrounding pineapple fields and Lanai and Molokai on the horizon; beautiful. Here's a view:



We left the Plantation House restaurant and got back on the road. We traveled up hairpin turns; sharp curves and twisty turns. On our way on the roadside; we passed a group of local islanders who shouted out, "Maui Waui!". That's code for marijuana. While it's illegal; the locals sell it outright. We couldn't figure out the legality of it all but for those of you reading; NO we didn't purchase any pot!

Nakalele Blowhole:



After viewing the blowhole taking video and photos; we left the blowhole to snorkel in Honolua Bay Beach. The area is part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District and fish were abundant and the coral formations were awesome.

We returned back to the hotel to catch the last few rays of the day at the pool. As we're staying at the Westin; we have reciprocal privileges at the Sheraton Maui and the Westin Resort Villas. We had our last sunset dinner at the Sheraton while enjoying a Hawaiian dancing show.

Tomorrow; our return day we're spending the afternoon touring Maui via helicopter. We arrive back in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.
