Last day in Shanghai!

Well readers; our time in China has come to an end. While we've enjoyed our entire stay here in this country we are very much looking forward to returning home and sleeping in our own bed.

Last night we wrapped up our final night with a very good authentic Chinese meal. Afterwards we called it an night as we made our preparations for plans for today's activities. Today is Saturday and we fly out on Sunday afternoon. We'll get up in the am and pack and leave around noon and will be en route back to the good ol USA.

Today we started out at the Shanghai Museum. http://www.shanghaimuseum.net The Museum was established in 1952 and is a large museum famous for its collection of ancient Chinese art in the world. The building has two floors underground and five floors on the ground. It has 120,000 pieces of works of art in the collection of ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics and calligraphy and painting as its special feature. Today we saw that they had an entire hall dedicated to American art but we decided to pass and enjoy the Chinese exhibits only. My personal favorites were the bronze and ceramics.

After touring the museum we made took a harbor cruise of the Bund. Today was the nicest day we've seen in Shanghai. Temps averaged around 88 degrees and the sky was blue. For the most part each day has started out or finished with large smog levels. Today was absolutely picture-perfect!

We then made our way over to the Jin Mao Tower. The building houses the Grand Hyatt Shanghai Hotel on the 53rd to 87th floors! At the very top (taking two separate elevators to get to it) sits Cloud Nine Bar. It was the most fantastic view from the top and this tower overshadows and surpasses the Oriental Peal TV Tower. We stayed at the bar for drinks then made our way to the market for more shopping.

We wrapped up shopping and took a cab back to the hotel for a quick change and then Dave and I had tickets to the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra http://www.sh-co-com.cn The show began at 7:15 pm and wrapped up two hours later. We wanted to take in some local culture and after the show decided we had rather have seen Chinese Opera. Perhaps next time. After the show we had a quick dinner at the hotel and said our official goodbyes to our Chinese host, Jia.

Check back again for postings of our photos of this trip. Soon our next travels take us to North Carolina for Memorial Day weekend. Until then..... Pin It Now!
