Christmas in Las Vegas

My single girl friend Ann and I were chatting earlier in the year talking about holiday plans, travel, etc. and brainstormed and said “Let’s go to Vegas for Christmas!”  So...we did.  Dave and I and Ann all trekked out to Las Vegas over the Christmas holiday and decided to make a weekend of it.

We flew out on Thursday, December 23rd.  We had a very laid back, casual weekend filled with gambling, eating and relaxing.  We stayed at the Flamingo Las Vegas.  That evening Ann had made arrangements to meet up with some industry colleagues for cocktails so we walked to the brand new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and met them there. We started out with cocktails at the Vesper Bar which was lovely and made terrific drinks.  Not bad for a new hotel.  Then we made our way to The Chandelier bar which was obviously not nearly as experienced in the cocktail making.  We stopped for dinner afterward with the crew at the Bellagio hotel's restaurant, Olives.  We then toured the holiday decor of the Bellagio gardens.

On Saturday, Dave and I had dinner with Darik from the Tropicana.  The night before he offered that that three of us come over for lunch and tour.  Dave and I made it but Ann decided not to have lunch or tour.  He treated us to lunch at Café Nikki then we toured the renovated property.  After our lunch and tour we of course hit the gaming tables at the Tropicana.

That evening we met up with Ann and had yummy burgers at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.

Ann made me and her spa appointments on Christmas Day at the spa at Encore.  That evening we had dinner at Mastro's Ocean Club in CityCenter.

After dinner Dave and I walked to the Mandarin Hotel and had a cocktail at the top of the hotel.  Here's a shot overlooking the strip.

Has anyone seen Santa on the strip?

We flew back to San Antonio on Sunday.  Ann loved her weekend in Las Vegas but personally I prefer to be in a city that embraces the holiday and perhaps spending time with family. It just felt odd to me to be with some many people that don’t celebrate, or believe in or recognize Christmas.  Even the city itself seemed lacking in embracing the holiday.  Lesson learned.
