It's June and the year is passing us by so quickly! Last weekend we went to Junction, TX to kayak the South Llano River with friends Molly & Doug and Noemi & Michael. This year we stayed at a new place; the South Llano River Lodge. It's about and hour and a half to two hours drive from San Antonio. What a lovely house! Unlike your typical B&B the owners Walter & Susan turned their home into a respite where they live just off an annex of their home. They also own this terrific Jack Russell terrier; Tess. Out back they have a pond where Walter gives fly fishing instruction. Tess paroles the back pond constantly chasing the frogs.
Here she is in action!
Friday night after arriving and settling in we went into town and ate dinner at The County Grill. All the men ate chicken fried steak and all said it was TOPS! I had a bite of Dave's and I must say it was pretty much; hands down the best CFS I ever ate. The special 'o the night was lasagna and that's what I had. It was good; not great and I wished afterward I had ordered something different. After dinner we followed the road out of town and drove to Lover's Leap. I personally didn't realize there were so many in Texas but Junction has it's very own; Lover's Leap is a cliff on the Devil's River. We also stopped at a lookout point overlooking the Eagle Stadium; home of the Junction high school Eagles.
Susan provided us with breakfast daily and a box lunch on Saturday. In the morning we loaded the kayaks in the river and had a lovely (hot) day of paddling down the Llano. There was lots of wildlife to see; kids playing, families picnicking by the banks. We even caught some horses cooling off!
Saturday night we went back into town again only this time trying Isaacks Restaurant. I called it "I sacks"; just a joke. Anywho...I had the fried chicken as I was craving it and it was very disappointing. No spices; no herbs no KFC that's for sure! It was just a lot of chicken on a plate. Dave had the CFS again but was disappointed and said that Coopers was much better.
On Sunday Molly and I left early as we had to be back in San Antonio and Noemi & Michael got in one more trip down the river while Dave and Doug spend the day fishing. It was a nice getaway and if you're ever in Junction and want a nice play to stay; we recommend the South Llano River Lodge!

Very nice write-up! Actually on Friday we ate at the County Grill that used to be Fred's Fried Chicken.
