The Masters!
Dave and I recently returned from Georgia. It was a business trip for Dave as he met with vendors headquartered in Conyers. They hosted us and made tickets availble for us to buy and attend the Masters! We arrived on Saturday morning. Delta Airlines really tried to stick it to us! Our flight departed San Antonio on April 11at 6:45 am. On Friday evening after dinner and a show and packing late is when it all went down. Dave went to bed while I was still up (late). At roughly 1:00 am my cell phone buzzed with email notification. I received TWO emails from Delta; one to my gmail account and one to my hotmail account. Each stating that they had CANCELLED our flight and had rebooked us for Sunday. I immediately woke Dave and told him we needed to call Delta. In the email they also stated they attempted to contact me via phone; BULL CRAP!!! The home phone nor cell phone ever rang. I couldn't get through to an agent so we went on line to find another phone and Dave got through to one. He proceeded to tell the agent that flying out on Sunday wasn't acceptable and that we needed to be there on Saturday. The agent then said; "We have a 5:45 am flight." Duh!!! So we took it of course. Dave went back to bed but I stayed up. What was the point of just a few hours sleep when we had to leave the house by 4:00 am. We got to the airport and go out just fine. When we arrived on Saturday we had plans to have lunch with a former CVB client of mine and his wife. We had a lovely lunch then they took us around Buckhead and neighboring communities of Atlanta then to their home. We visited with them and left late in the afternoon to get on the road to Conyers. We checked in and had a late bite that night at a restaurant where I was practically falling asleep in my burger. The next morning we got up and left the hotel by 6:30 am. After a 2 hour ride to Augusta we got there and had breakfast. We then walked over to the course and set up our chairs on the 18th hole. It's amazing! You set your chair and personal affects down and nobody messes with them! You leave them for hours then come back to them. Dave and I walked the course and stopped for lunch. The food pricing is remarkable. Sandwiches are $1.50. Beers are $2.50. Snacks and chips are $1.00! Now the golf shop was another story but food was very reasonable. Unfortunately absolutely NO phones or cameras are allowed on the course so I have no photos other than these off the internet to say we were there.
It was an incredible experience to be there; especially as a female golfer! Augusta National Golf Club. Check out wikipedia's description of all the landmarks and features. It was only as recent as 1990 when the 300 member club allowed black members. Women are allowed to play as a guest of a member but there are no women members. Going to the Masters is definitely a "bucket list" type of thing to do.
Amen Corner
After the tournament we had dinner at Bistro 491 in Augusta; it was excellent! We then finally hit the road back to Conyers and after a long day and night.
The next day I accompanied Dave on his factory tours. We had lunch at at Jim N Nicks BAR B Q. For those of you who know how much I dislike Texas BBQ; I was in heaven here. Southern BBQ is totally different from Texas BBQ. Yum!
We got to the airport roughly 2 hours in advance and returned our rental car and checked our bags. Monday's weather was horrible in Atlanta and flights were delayed and cancelled all over the place. Thankfully our flight home wasn't too terribly delayed. However, upon arriving in San Antonio and waiting, waiting, waiting at baggage claim..we had no bags. Dave spoke to the bag agent who proceeded to tell him that some bags were taken off of the flight to accommodate the stand-by passengers and their luggage. WHAT????? I was so angry I couldn't believe first off that on a non stop flight our bags didn't make it and secondly an agent would really tell us that. I was in such good favor of Delta with the trip to NYC but this trip and how they treated us left such a bad taste in my mouth. Our compensation was two $25 vouchers good for our next travel and we finally got our luggage the next night at 10:30. They called Dave on Tuesday morning to tell him they were going to deliver but he asked for it after 8:00 pm as we were both out and about and working. 8 pm came and went; 9 pm came and went. I asked Dave to call them and they finally delivered just after 10:30. By this time it was out of Delta's hands but nonetheless we were still very frustrated. Oh..had relayed this story to a colleague and his words..."Never check a bag more than 2 hours in advance; it'll never make it as they are overwhelmed and anything given to them too far in advance just doesn't cut it." Good to know!
Next trip? Cincinatti. Next airline? Continental... Pin It Now!
