Travis Vick; Junior Golfer Extraordinaire!

Junior Golfer? What? Who? Okay readers. Allow me to digress just a minute before writing upon the title of this last post. In May 2007, Dave's company H-E-B is a major contributor to the United Way. In 2007 Dave and I attended their United Way fundraiser which always consists of live and silent auction items. One of the items from LAST YEAR that we purchased was a round of golf at Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg, TX. Boot Ranch combines the personal vision of Hal Sutton with Legacy Properties to create and develop 2,000 acres of home sites and golf. While it took us over year to cash in on the certificate; we decided to spend an overnight in Fredericksburg this past weekend. Let me just say WOW!!! What an experience. Of all the golf we've played throughout San Antonio as well as nationally and internationally; we have never been blown away by the experience we had on Saturday. It truly is a hidden jewel nestled in the Hill Country.

So back to the auction item. The round was donated by a vendor of H-E-B's Rhino Building Industries. On Saturday we golfed with Trey Vick from Rhino; his son Travis.....bear with me I'm getting there... and a colleague of Dave's from H-E-B; Robbie. Trey's son Travis; an 8 year old member of the Southwest Junior Golf Tour was definitely the golfer extraordinaire. I have never seen a young man with such poise on the tee box and could carry his own weight. He out drove me off the forward tee each and every time. It was so impressive to watch him play. I asked Travis how long he had been playing (remember he's 8 years old) and he replied, "since I was 2." When he had an incredible shot we'd all compliment him and tell him how great it was and his "aw-shucks, toe stub in the dirt" thank you blew me away; amazing to see an 8 year old look at you and you interpret his response as "it's just something I do I guess." As adults we work so hard on our skills and his comes so naturally to him. I simply had to blog and post about this weekend!

After golf we checked in to the Frederickburg Inn & Suites; don't be fooled by the impressive website as the rooms are very, very outdated. The rooms could stand an overhaul that's for sure. We showered and made our way down Main street for a lovely dinner at Rebecca's Table. If you like small intimate dining at a chef-owned establishment; you definitely need to try dining at Rebecca's table. Kudos to them.

On Sunday we took at the matinee show at Rockbox Theater. The state-of-the-art indoor theater opened June 2007 and features a resident cast of professional entertainers and musicians. Dave and I were a little hesitant after the first performance but it turned out to be pretty well done. It's definitely some good; family entertainment if you have the chance. They are even featured on Youtube!

So that was our local weekend getaway in a nutshell. Next destination....Las Vegas! Again you say? I know; I know. We promised to no longer vacation there and to be there only for business but we are doing a golf weekend so it's just a little bit different. Check back to see how we golfed! Pin It Now!

Sounds like a fun weekend! We had to dodge raindrops, but we did get to go kayaking! By the way, the link you posted to Rebecca's blog is for a different Rebecca. Rebecca Rather is the chef-owner of Fredericksburg's Rebecca's Table.
