A Texas Tribute

There has been so much out of state and out of country travel posted that I felt it time to blog about our recent weekend to Llano, Texas. Our friends Doug and Molly have a home on the river. They've named their country river getaway "Santosha", Sanskrit for "contentment"; which it really is. We came to Llano on Friday, June 6 to have dinner at the Badu House. This is approximately our fourth year in a row or so of attending the dinner and auction the Friday prior to the Saturday Great Castell Kayak Race. While we don't actually partake in the race itself; we do launch kayaks and enjoy the river on our own. Doug and Molly's place sits just over 4 miles from the Llano Dam where we put the boats in. This year's race was the 6th year in its existence and it always occurs on the first Saturday in June. The auction raises money and this year's auction was benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Memory of Judith Lynn Curtis. We always enjoy the auction as we usually come home bearing some unique goodies. This year we bid on a watercolor print by Austin artist and architectural illustrator Joyce Rosner. The print consists of faces from Germany. Joyce was an invited artist in the Gesichter Zweier Exhibition sponsored by the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Regional Planning. She is on the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture. I also bought a great Christian Dior bag! I've always been a fan of those cute and tiny "pit" bags but this one is a big honker and I LOVE it. Here's me and my bag!

On Saturday we launched our kayaks by the dam and took the four mile or so route to the house. Water levels are a little low so we got hung up in some spots. It was a beautiful, HOT day and about four hours later; we made it to our destination. This year we didn't spend the night but instead had to make our way back to San Antonio as Dave had to fly out Sunday morning for a business trip to Kansas City and St. Louis.

Four years ago they hadn't even been in a kayak. Look at 'em now!!
I am so glad that this is one of your scheduled trips, you are always a blast. Dave, I am sorry I did not get up early enough to fix your fish for breakfast. Next year we will have fish tacos.
