If you're reading looking forward to a post from us regarding our trip to Scotland and Ireland; know this. The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland has thwarted our plans! We arrived successfully to Ireland but unfortunately the ash has closed UK airports and we're unable to get to Scotland.
We left San Antonio on Saturday, May 16. We connected on Delta to Atlanta; had a short delay there; then flew into JFK International Airport. We got off Saturday evening through Aer Lingus and arrived in Ireland on Sunday morning at 9:35 am. Since we had a 6 hour lay-over in Ireland we decided to do a hop-on/hop-off bus tour. When we returned to the airport to check in we learned all flights had been cancelled. We even tried to fly into Birmingham, England and take the overnight train to Glasgow but Birmingham closed on us as well. We may be in Ireland a few days; keep checking back to see where our travels lead us.

Yikes! I read that if you keep hanging out at the airport, then you can usually get on the first flights out when they are cleared. Not fun, but could save your trip to Scotland.
Good Luck!
If I ever have a volcano I will definitely name it Eakdjgnfglsadkafsjgangaklnagkljasnh.
