Happy Birthday Dave! Today we celebrated Dave's birthday in Aruba. We golfed at Tierra del Sol; the only 18-hole championship golf course on the island! The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II. Today was another sunny; breezy day on the island and we teed off at noon. http://www.tierradelsol.com/golf/ We each did pretty good considering it was a new course to play.
Beyond the #2 hole sits the California Lighthouse. The lighthouse was named after a ship called the US California, which has the distinction of having been in proximity of, and having received distress signals from, the Titanic, as it went down in icy waters in 1912.
This evening at the hotel; we went to the Cabaret Royale Showroom for - A Night in Havana (Dinner and Show). It's touted as an escape to Cuba and consisted of a 4-course Latin menu. They advertised it as the Tropical Band from Havana and an authentic Cuban dance troupe with Aruba singing sensation Sashah. It was actually more of a Las Vegas costume change singing/burlesque act except the dancers kept their clothes on! We thought it would be an unique birthday celebration.
Dave and I were tabled with another couple. They were in Aruba on their honeymoon and hail from Ohio. They spoke of their airline disaster on United and they too were supposed to arrive the same day as us. Evidently all air traffic control closed down on Sunday and they were re-routed to Puerto Rico. They also leave on Saturday so we parted wishing them the best; to enjoy their stay and that we'd probably see them again on Saturday at the airport.
At the end of the show the manager of the showroom stepped on stage to make announcements. She recognized various couples in the room who were on their honeymoon. She then called Dave to the stage and had Sashah sing happy birthday to him and presented him with a piece of cake. Unfortunately they did not allow photography so no proof of Dave's big ol grin!
Tomorrow we plan on snorkeling and taking in more of the capitol city. Til then....
