On our last day in the Monterey area Dave and I decided to hit the road and drive up the Pacific Coastal Highway of Highway One South and see Big Sur! We drove through Carmel and along the picturesque views of the coast. We traveled mid to late morning but the fog banks were still dense but we managed to snap a few photos along the way. We decided to then go to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and hike through the redwoods; an icon to California no? After a self-guided hike through the trails and although they say there is wildlife to include black-tail deer, gray squirrels, raccoons, skunks, and birds, such as water ouzels and belted kingfishers, alas as the trail is so frequented we saw none of them! When we finished we made our way over to the Big Sur Lodge and walked through the lodge and general store. We had lunch at Nepenthe Restaurant where Dave had their famous Ambrosia Burger. Check them out at http://www.nepenthebigsur.com
That evening we made our way back to Fresh Cream restaurant for a second night of incredible dining! This time we had our own private table nestled in the corner overlooking the Monterey harbor.
Oh and for those of you wanting to know; we did indeed golf again on Saturday but this time we golfed at Spyglass Hill. This course was completely different from the links style of Spanish Bay. It was incredible and so picturesque as well. I loved each hole as they are aptly named after characters from Treasure Island. Here are the stats for Spyglass:
18 Holes
Par: 72
Blue Rating: 75.5/Slope 147; Yardage - 6,953
Gold Rating: 73.2/Slope 144; Yardage - 6,534
White Rating: 71.4/Slope 137; Yardage - 6,123
Red Rating: 72.9/Slope 133; Yardage - 5,379
And for the foodies; we dined that Saturday evening in Carmel at Forge in Carmel; a restaurant that's been part of Carmel history since 1944. The Forge is the only employee owned and operated restaurant of its kind on the Monterey Peninsula! http://www.forgeintheforest.com/flash.html
We left on Tuesday morning to drive back to Monterey. The activities, weather and food was one of the best we could have asked for. Here's to more travels and fun for us.
Cheers!
